Mr. Irfan Iqbal Sheikh, President FPCCI, has welcomed the whole-hearted support of Governor KPK, Haji Ghulam Ali, to the business, industry and trade community on the FPCCI-proposed Charter of Economy aimed at 10 – 15 years of continuity in economic policies & plans. He gave this message on the occasion of Governor’s visit to the FPCCI Head Office Karachi along with other notable parliamentarians.
Mr. Irfan Iqbal Sheikh said that Haji Ghulam Ali can effectively utilize his high office to very persuasively relay the concerns, issues and complaints to the federal government as he has been an accomplished businessman himself for the past 4 – 5 decades.
Haji Ghulam Ali maintained that he is fully aware of the unbearable cost of doing business situation in the country and have made it clear to the federal government that it should work towards the protection & sustainability of the export-oriented industries, SMEs, labor-intensive sectors – and, more so, for the sustenance of the common man of the country.
Haji Ghulam Ali congratulated the entire business community of Pakistan in general & FPCCI in particular for the astounding come back of Pakistan’s representative as the Vice President of the mighty trade alliance of 27 countries, i.e. Asia-Pacific Chamber of Commerce & Industry (CACCI) after a long-drawn-out period of 8 years. He added that the newly-elected VP CACCI from Pakistan, Mr. Khurram Tariq Sayeed, will help bring a lot of trade opportunities, investments, JVs and business collaborations to Pakistan using his influence & goodwill at CACCI.
Mian Anjum Nisar, former President FPCCI, explained that resumption of IMF’s Extended Fund Facility (EFF) after the successful completion of its 9th review will not solve its economic problems beyond a few months. In fact, it will prove to be merely an ad hoc arrangement; and, we cannot see a sustainable economic turnaround until & unless the government adopts business-friendly, pro-growth and indigenously formed fiscal, monetary, taxation, investment, industrial, trade, energy security, agricultural, educational and food security policies, he added.
Mr. Khurram Tariq Sayeed, VP CACCI & a former VP FPCCI, pointed out that energy security is Pakistan’s biggest issue – be its uninterrupted supplies; affordability & efficiency; management of circular debts of electricity & gas sectors; cheap power production and environment-friendly electricity plants. He urged the government to facilitate & incentivize the renewable &clean energy power plants to enable the business community to invest in power plants on their own. It will be a win-win scenario for both the sides, he added
